The Group are enjoying a wide variety of activities during the summer months.

The Beavers are looking forward to their sleepover at the weekend and have a mini Olympics planned to end the term. During this term they have been working on the Outdoor Challenge and Experiment badges.

On Monday 2nd June there was a presentation by Julie Whiting, ADC Cubs, to four boys, Joe Newman, Joe Newton, William Shore and Cameron Price, who have gained their Chief Scout Silver award, the highest award a Cub can achieve. Well done! We were also delighted to welcome Jess Prosser and Mollie Croft who have been invested. Activities for the Cubs during this term include cooking at Woodhouse Park and climbing/tunnelling at Castle Quarry.

A sausage sizzle was enjoyed by the Scouts during May Half term in spite of the rain. They have been involved with preparations for Pilning Carnival and continue to raise funds with car washing mornings on the first Saturday of every month in the Cross Hands car park. The Explorers have continued to improve their First Aid skills, enjoy cooking evenings and other activities.

The Scouts will continue to have weekly meetings during the school summer holidays, but there will not be any meetings for the Beavers and Cubs during this time.

The Group’s trip to Kandersteg International Scout Centre is only just over five weeks away and the excitement is building up. A day hill walking in the Black Mountains to help improve everyone’s fitness was enjoyed at the beginning of June.

Unfortunately the financial market has not been kind to us with a poor rate of exchange with the Swiss Franc, making the trip cost more than originally thought.

There will be a fund raising Horse Race Night on Saturday 12th July at Severn Beach Village Hall. The first race is at 7.30 pm. Tickets are £5 each which includes a ploughman’s supper and are available from Section Leaders. We anticipate an exciting evening and hope you will be able to join us.
